That's why it shouldn't come as a surprise that he seemed to be enjoying as much as anyone the location that his club,Panathinaikos Athens, chose to present its brand-new jersey on Monday evening.
In a special event that took place in the Acropolis Museum, under the imposing Parthenon that loomed just a few meters away, the Greens found a way to connect Athens' most famous cultural landmark with the most ambitious squad they've fielded since the Zeljko Obradovic era that ended in 2012.
Guy is hopeful that it won't take him too long to feel at ease with his new venture in Athens -- and there are plenty of reasons that can support his optimism.
Guy says one of the things in his basketball agenda that he takes the most pride in is that he can get along with everyone on the team. But the process works both ways.
"Everyone's had a moment where they helped me," he reflects.
"One of my favorite things about joining the team is how quickly we all bonded and created a brotherhood. It's great. I think Slovenia helped a lot for the training camp. Getting to know the Greek guys for the first time was great because they can show me around and tell me where I need to go."
Where Guy thought he needed to go this past summer was Greece. Nevertheless, Panathinaikos didn't initially appear as a potential suitor for the 2019 NCAA champion.
Valencia Basketwas the team thatsubmitted an official offerfor him, but Badalona had the right to match the offer -- andthat's what they did. Hence, any Spanish club interested in pursuing the American shooting guard would have to negotiate with his former team and buy him out.
