The Lithuanian tactician revealed that starting from the 2023-24 season, the head coaches will be allowed to use two coach challenges instead of one.
"I visited Barcelona, which has seen plenty of changes in the organizational and officiating management. First, we saw our colleagues and other coaches and were introduced to the upcoming rule changes," Maksvytis told Zalgiris TV before the upcoming friendly tournament in Cyprus.
"There are no key changes. One of them is the coach challenge rule – from now on, we will be able to use two challenges instead of one. The referees will have fewer opportunities to stop the clock so that the games wouldn't last too long," Maksvytis added.
Last week, the EuroLeague also introduced a new officiating procedure. Before every game, one of the referees will meet with team captains on the court to discuss the upcoming matchup and rule enforcement.
In those meetings, questions about rules and any other pertinent information may be covered, and players will be reminded to play within the spirit of the rules and with appropriate sportsmanlike behavior.
