Kostas Sloukas remembered how Panathinaikos Athens fans treated him when he arrived at the 2019 Pavlos Giannakopoulos tournament as a Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul player at that time.

Sloukas, who transferred from Olympiacos to Panathinaikos this past summer, stressed that he was then applauded by PAO fans and received plenty of boos at the Piece and Friendship Stadium when Fenerbahce were playing against the Reds.

"The truth is that coming as an opponent here in the tournament, Panathinaikos fans applauded me. It was a strange feeling for me, as players who go from one team to another are usually treated differently," Sloukas said in the tournament's opening press conference.

"I said back then that the fans of Panathinaikos recognize not only my contribution to basketball and my passion, but also the fact that I do not provoke.

"As a Fenerbahce player, I was booed more by Olympiacos fans rather than by those of Panathinaikos," he added. "I have received a lot of love already from PAO fans, and I am waiting for them to be next to us all year."

When asked about his perspective on Panathinaikos as an opponent during his tenure with Fenerbahce, Sloukas acknowledged that facing Panathinaikos was always a challenging experience.

"As an opponent, Panathinaikos was a difficult team," he said. "There were times when Panathinaikos was doing better in Europe. Other times, it was Olympiacos.

"The additions made by the president and all those of us who have been recruited to bring success to Panathinaikos will make the games against Olympiacos even more interesting."
