This means that the Dubs can release him before the start of the season without any strings attached and that the player's salary is not guaranteed.

McGruder played in 33 games for the Pistons in preseason and averaged 5.5 points and 2.2 rebounds while shooting 42.3% from the 3-point line in 16 minutes.
McGruder is the first player to get a camp deal after the Warriors said they invited around 50 players for workouts. One of them was Dwight Howard, who, however, will not be joining the Dubs. According to Charania, the Warriors are now looking for squad depth for the wing, and McGruder fits this description.
The Warriors currently have 13 roster spots filled but will need to have 14 at the start of the season. Two of the available two-way slots have already been allocated to Lester Quinones and Usman Garuba.
McGruder starred in an incident involving Juan Toscano-Anderson in February 2021, in which Klay Thompson, injured at the time, commented as follows: "I don’t know what he has. Maybe the boy will be out of the league soon. He's probably mad about that, who knows?"
Draymond Green also made a comment at the subsequent press conference: "We have too many tough guys in the league, but I know that nobody is afraid of Rodney McGruder," he said.
