Holiday confirmed that the Celtics already told him they would like to discuss a long-term contract extension, and it looks like the feeling is mutual.
"[Brad Stevens, Celtics GM] communicated that with me from the beginning," Holiday said. "Something that's huge for me is communication. Being open and honest and up front. He's done that for me from the beginning, so I definitely appreciate that."
Holiday has a $39.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season and will become an unrestricted free agent the following summer.
Earlier, the Celtics president of basketball operations, Brad Stevens, admitted that keeping Holiday for long is the plan.
"We've wanted him here for a long time, and when the time comes, and we're allowed to talk about those types of things, this is something that we hope can be a long-term relationship, obviously beyond these years of his contract," Stevens said. "But we have a few months to go before we can get too deep into that stuff."
The Portland Trail Blazers traded Holiday to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Robert Williams III, Malcolm Brogdon, a 2024 1st-round pick, and a 2029 unprotected 1st-rounder.
