But I'm very happy to be here," said Garuba of his busy off-season, in which he was traded first to the Atlanta Hawks and then to the Oklahoma City Thunder without playing a single game in either one.
While he has been to three teams this summer, Garuba was captivated by the interest shown in him by the Golden State Warriors.
"They were really interested in me. Not only now, especially during the 2021 draft," Garuba explained. "In Vegas, I met the staff and the front office and had dinner with them, which was really cool."
The Spanish player will split his time between the Golden State Warriors and its G-League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. In the time he spends with the first team, he will have much experience to draw from.
When asked about the comparisons he has drawn previously to Draymond Green, Garuba had this to say:
"I am excited to work with everyone. It's a championship team, a team that won the ring last year. They drew me some similarities [with Green]. I want to learn from him a lot, watching him every day is going to be very good for me."
Usman Garuba, the former EuroLeague Rising Star, entered the 2021 NBA Draft and was selected 23rd overall. He spent his first three years in the Houston Rockets.
