Real Madrid's big man Edy Tavares didn't play in the Spanish Liga Endesa against FC Barcelona last weekend. He will miss the start of the EuroLeague as well.

The Cabo Verdean center, who was recently named the best player in the tournament in a special survey, is dealing with respiratory problems and will not compete against Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz on Friday.

Alongside Tavares, Gabriel Deck and Eli Ndiaye will not be with the team on the active roster as well. The Argentinian forward is still recovering from an injury he suffered during the offseason, while Ndiaye had to travel to Senegal, head coach Chus Mateo confirmed.

"These are things that happen, that's what happened now," the specialist said to the local media ahead of the game.

Ismaila Diagne, a 16-year-old who surprised European basketball fans by being selected into the starting five in El Clasico, will travel with the team and will be registered for the match.
