Kostas Sloukas looked stunning in the first half, but got quiet during the rest of the game. Meanwhile, Olympiacos Piraeus overcame a tough crowd and defeated Panathinaikos Athens in overtime, 88-78 (23-22, 13-21, 16-16, 22-15, 14-4).

In a back-and-forth game, Panathinaikos controlled the vast majority of the game. However, Olympiacos began the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run and regained their first lead since the first quarter and were leading with 6 minutes remaining.

Down by three (66-69), Marius Grigonis made two clutch three-pointers to give Panathinaikos a three-point lead, but Thomas Walkup answered with a triple of his own and tied the game again.

With the game tied at 74, Kostas Sloukas had the ball in his hands but committed an offensive foul. In the next possession, Panathinaikos managed to defend successfully, but Mathias Lessort quickly made a bad pass, and the final possession went to Olympiacos.

Walkup wasn't able to convert a driving layup, Sloukas missed a final heave, and the teams went to overtime.

In a change of events, Olympiacos started the overtime with a 12-0 run, stunning the home crowd. Panathinaikos didn't manage to overcome the deficit and got defeated in the first game of the new EuroLeague season.

It was Olympiacos' 18th win in the last 19th derbies against Panathinaikos and 5th straight in the EuroLeague.

Alec Peters played the best game in his EuroLeague career, scoring 17 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, recording 4 assists and 4 steals for a career-high 31 PIR. Nikola Milutinov added 15 points and 7 rebounds for 21 PIR.

On the losing side, Juancho Hernangomez registered a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
