In light of the attack launched by Hamas, Israel's reps in European competitions are waiting for a decision on whether their games will take place next week. Some clubs seem to be more flexible than others, while non-Israeli players are being transferred to a safer place.

Israel has been living a nightmare since Saturday morning when a missile attack was launched from the Gaza Strip by the Palestinian group Hamas, which was able to infiltrate the country. Several people, including civilians, were killed, while others were taken hostage.

As a result, all sporting events will not take place. Some sports clubs have already allowed their foreign players to leave the country.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports announced that all sporting events will be canceled until further notice. EuroCup's Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv were supposed to play on Sunday, October 8th, against Hapoel Galil Elyon. The league will have to find a new date.

The Ministry currently prohibits any departure of Israeli teams and delegations abroad. It may be that this is only a formal ban in light of the current security situation following the severe terrorist attack, but at the moment each team is trying to resolve the matter individually, while five Israeli squads are scheduled to play in European competitions next week.

According to Walla Sports, Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, who must travel to Milan to play EA7 Emporio Armani for EuroLeague Round 2, are adhering to the instructions of the Home Front Command, an authority responsible for civil defense in Israel. The Israeli champs stay in touch with various parties in the hope that they will be able to travel.

Hapoel Jerusalem will have to face Benfica in Lisbon for the FIBA Basketball Champions League opener. Per Walla Sports, as of now, there is no instruction or information about the game not taking place, or any contact between the parties involved. However, FIBA is also monitoring the situation, and if the tension doesn't appease, the limited number of games and the spread-out game schedule might facilitate a solution.

Hapoel Tel Aviv are scheduled to host Wolves for EuroCup Round 2. The two clubs and Euroleague Basketball are expected to make a decision by Sunday on whether the contest will be held.

Two Israeli women's teams are playing host in international competitions next week.Elizur Ramla will square off with Spanish Guernica, and Ramat Hasharon are welcoming British Caledonia next Thursday (October 12). The Israeli Basketball Association is in contact with FIBA to work on possible solutions.

The non-domestic basketball players who wish to leave Israel immediately, have the option to do so on Saturday night and/or Sunday morning by using a special plane that will transfer them to Greece.
