Brooks was immediately called for a foul. After a review, a common foul was upgraded into a Flagrant 2, and the player was ejected from the game.
After the match, the Rockets forward said that he felt it was unfair.
"Tried to navigate a screen, I might have tapped him below the waist, but, you know, he got right back up. I don't know. It's weird. Every time it happens to me, I get picked on," he said.
"I don't know," he said when asked if he feels targeted by the referees. "What's the name, what's my name? The name is Dillon the Villain, so I guess."
While the episode initially seemed regular, the foul was deemed unnecessary and excessive and triggered an ejection. However, Brooks questioned the motive behind the move.
"For a Flagrant 2 foul, you have to know if the person is doing it on purpose or intentionally. That's where you're going at me as a person. That ref Mitch, that just shows that he just doesn't know who I am as a person, and he's just going off the base of what's being said," Brooks said.
The player will have a call with the league about the situation, he revealed.
"They just talk to me after the fact. I will have a call later on today or tomorrow and explain what happened. At the time, I didn't mean to do it. I just play hard, and stuff happens," Brooks concluded.
