ESPN's insider Adrian Wojnarowski says that the 76ers would want to receive one or multiple assets that would allow them to flip them into another All-Star level guard.
"Daryl Morey's motivation is whatever he gets from the Clippers, he wants to be able to flip that for another All-Star level guard that he could replace James Harden with," Wojnarowski said on NBA Today.
"I think the slow play to take a combination of whatever the Clippers would give them and their own assets to go out and make a deal to replace James Harden because you're trying to win right now with Joel Embiid.
I think the problem for this time of the year is who is that player or players out there that are available in the preseason, in training camp," Wojnarowski continued.
Nevertheless, Wojnarowski thinks that fulfilling such a request at this point of the season won't be an easy task.
"Those kind of players they emerge as you get deeper into the season, teams start to maybe look at going in a different direction, maybe they're not going to re-sign a veteran player, maybe they're going to move off of him.
The asking price this time of the year for the players you might want to get to replace James Harden is going to be really high," said Wojnarowski.
A 14-year veteran who has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, and 76ers, Harden holds career averages of 24.7 points, 7.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds in 1,000 games (786 starts).
He led the league in scoring three times, and last year, his 10.7 assists per game were the most in the NBA.
A 10-time All-Star, Harden was the league's Most Valuable Player in the 2017-18 season and is a six-time All-NBA first-team selection.
