This time, his special summer guest was none other than Aaron Gordon, who, for the second consecutive offseason, found himself in Europe.
Over the course of three days, Jokic played the role of tour guide, showcasing Sombor and its surroundings to Gordon.
Jokic ensured his American teammate experienced the best of Serbian life, including visits to his favorite restaurants and, of course, the racetrack. Gordon found himself captivated by the local culture and the tranquility of a city with a modest population of around 40,000.
He marveled at how one could cross the entire town "in maybe 35 minutes" and couldn't help but contrast the calmness to the hustle and bustle of American cities during rush hour.
"His [Nikola Jokic's] routine over there, his way of life, very congruent," Gordon shared with ESPN. "I could see his peace. The peace of mind translates onto the court. That's what makes him such a good player."
Gordon also developed a fondness for Serbian cuisine, particularly Jokic's preferred dish -- fish stew.
"The food is amazing. There's huge portions," Gordon said while comparing Sombor to "a town out of a storybook."
"The architecture is beautiful," Gordon added. "It seems like each one of the buildings is unique ... It's very wholesome, their [real] easy way of life."
Jokic even converted Gordon into a harness racing fan. Gordon enthusiastically cheered as one of Jokic's horses claimed victory in a race, later proudly posing with the trophy alongside his teammate for photos.
Gordon humorously mentioned his desire to place a bet on Jokic's horse, but the big man cautioned him by saying, "Hey Aaron, don't jinx me."
The two will start the NBA title defense quest on Oct. 24 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
