Unfortunately, he planted his left leg awkwardly, resulting in what seemed to be a significant knee injury even before the collision with his opponent.
The 23-year-old guard, who had 21 points in just 22 minutes, lay on the court in visible pain for a couple of minutes.
Eventually, he had to be assisted off the court by the Wolves' medical staff, unable to put any weight on his left leg.
"So far, it looks quite serious, and I hesitate to make any further comments. Examinations will be done, and then we will know," Wolves head coach Kestutis Kemzura addressed Zagars' injury after a 105-108 double-overtime loss.
Zagars had been a standout player in the FIBA World Cup 2023, averaging 12.4 points (55.6% 2P, 41.7% 3P) and making the All-Second Team. He also contributed 2.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game, all in just 25 minutes of playtime.
Zagars improved the single-game World Cup assists record in the Classification Round game vs. Lithuania. He dished out 17 dimes and surpassed Toni Kukoc (15 AST).
Following his remarkable performance, Zagars signed a three-year contract with EuroLeague powerhouse Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul but was loaned to EuroCup's Wolves Vilnius for the 2023-24 season.
In November 2018, Zagars underwent surgery for a torn ligament in his ankle, leading to a sideline period that lasted until early March 2019.
