Historical: First female coach takes helm in Greek Basketball League / News - Basketnews.com
History was made as Vasileia Gkouzini Skarafigkas took over Maroussi BC in the game against PAOK BC after the head coach, her husband, was ejected with two technical fouls.
In the Greek Basketball League game between Maroussi BC and PAOK BC, a historical event occurred as a female coach took over the reins of a team for the first time ever, even though it was not for the entire game.
When the team's head coach, Giorgos Skarafigkas, was sent away after receiving his 2nd technical foul in the game, his wife, assistant coach Vasileia Gkouzini Skarafigkas, took over the reins of the team.
The assistant coach led the game for the majority of the 4th quarter, as the head coach was expelled with over 7 minutes remaining towards the end of the game.
While Maroussi failed to come up with a win on the home court, losing the game 75-80, the historical milestone nevertheless has made the game one to remember not just for them but for Greek basketball.
Next week, PAOK will host Peristeri BC, while Maroussi will be guests to Promitheas Patras in the Greek Basketball League.
