Additionally, the Spanish media was captivated by the victory, claiming that Real Madrid demonstrated the capacity to meaningfully compete in the NBA.
However, Spanish basketball legend Jose Manuel Calderon begs to differ. He was underlining that the Mavericks played largely without Luka Doncic and did not have Kyrie Irving on the roster.
"A team that played more or less with all the players, against a team that played without its two stars, at a preseason time in which they have only been training for a week. [It's] difficult," Calderon told Carrusel Deportiva.
Speaking of Real Madrid's playoff chances, Calderon was also skeptical.
"They [NBA and EuroLeague] are two different basketballs, and it would be difficult to get into the playoffs with the teams that exist right now," Calderon said.
Calderon continues to be a special advisor to the Cleveland Cavaliers, who will debut in the 2023-24 NBA season against the Brooklyn Nets on October 26.
On the other hand, Real Madrid will host Zalgiris Kaunas on October 17 in the EuroLeague.
