However, the star player seems to be picking up form, dishing 9.5 assists per game on an average 22 minutes a game in 4 preseason contests.
While the player has recently stated that he is aiming for a strong return to the NBA, he has also spoken encouragingly about a return to the national team, which was frequently rumored but did not come to fruition in later years.
Speaking to Esquire Australia, the three-time NBA All-Star had the following to say:
"And I want my team to succeed all the time. So it’s just interesting seeing that go on and then when we get knocked out, people are like, ‘Okay, we doneed him’. I’m like, Yeah, it would be nice to have me there because I’m one of the best players that’s come out of the country."
Simmons continued.
"That’s [the Olympics] what I think about. Let’s get through the season healthy and play in the Olympics. That’s just going to be insane for me," the point guard said.
"I’m going for a medal, but just having that experience and to be able to represent my country, there’s probably nothing better than that,” he concluded ambitiously.
The Brooklyn Nets will make their debut in the new NBA season on 26 October against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Ben Simmons is expected to be on the starting five of the Nets.
