Turns out Laso didn't even receive an invitation to attend the game.
"No, they didn't invite me, but it's okay. I don't care about it too much," Sport.es quotes Laso. " I have huge respect for Madrid, but now I am in another club with other ambitions and ideas."
Laso and FC Bayern will face FC Barcelona on Friday, and the 56-year-old was asked what kind of reception he expects.
"I have a good relationship with the Palau people. They have always treated me very well. But of course, I'm the [former] coach of Madrid. What are they going to do? Applaud me?" Laso said, laughing.
"I have a good relationship with the people of Catalonia, many friends in Barcelona, in Girona where I played. I have never had anything personal; I don't have it anywhere. I cannot judge the reception I have. It's different coming as Bayern coach, but when the game starts, you forget everything," Laso added.
Interestingly, the current Bayern coach didn't rule out the possibility of coaching Barcelona in the future.
"It would be absurd to do so [rule it out]. This is a professional sport", Laso said before giving an example of Nicolas Laprovittola.
"Nico has found his place as a player to produce at the best level. He is a very decisive player; he already showed it at Joventut. I have always had great esteem for him as a person and player," Laso added.
Nevertheless, Laso also praised the work of Roger Grimau, who currently has a perfect record in the Spanish ACB and EuroLeague.
"Roger Grimau is leading the team very well, but he needs time. He has many new players who must be important. Barca is still a very raw [team] regardless of whether they win or lose, but it is normal," Laso concluded.
