"Nobody has to worry. I won't leave the national team," Herbert gave a short comment to bild.de.

As was reported by BasketNews, Herbert is the top candidate to replace TJ Parker in LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne. However, the German basketball federation is unwilling to grant Herbert permission to sign a EuroLeague contract and work both in ASVEL and the German national team.

It remains to be seen whether the solution could be found. At the moment, three other EuroLeague coaches work on the club and international level: Kazys Maksvytis (Lithuania, Zalgiris), Luca Banchi (Latvia, Virtus), and Ergin Ataman (Turkey, Panathinaikos).

A Canadian-Finnish head coach has recently achieved remarkable success with the German national team.

Under his guidance, Germany secured a bronze medal at the 2022 EuroBasket and won the World Cup in 2023.

Herbert's contract with the German national team runs until 2025.
