Troublesome news has reached the NBA just before the start of the new season.

According to TMZ Sports, the league is being investigated by the US Department of Justice for anticompetitive behavior.

The NBA is alleged to have actively squashed the development of Big3, a three-on-three league created by rapper Ice Cube.

The league is accused of using its name and leverage to prevent sponsors from working with Big3 and network televisions from broadcasting the competition. The NBA has denied all accusations.

Big3 representatives believe the league has been unfairly targeted by the NBA. Meanwhile, NBA owners have been discouraged from investing in Big3, TMZ Sports report.

NBA referees have been barred from working in Big3 as well, the report states.
