In a Sunday night matchup against MoraBanc Andorra, Baskonia faced additional challenges with only eight players in rotation. The team suffered a 17-point loss (68-85), aggravated by Markus Howard leaving the court early due to a back injury and Chima Moneke having limited minutes due to discomfort.
Joan Penarroya, who is now sitting on a hot seat, addressed his future in a post-game interview with Radio Vitoria following the latest domestic defeat.
"No, no, no. I don't know anything," Penarroya responded when asked about his future. "I haven't spoken anything to anyone. We've been on the front pages for a week, and I keep getting asked the same question. And I'll tell you the same thing: I know nothing.
"I can't speculate on something I don't know will happen. You all take it for granted: you all might have your sources, but I'm here, and I know absolutely nothing.
"Now, I'm headed to Barcelona to try to lift the spirits of the guys who are devastated, both mentally and physically. Tomorrow, we'll return to Vitoria at 3 to rest. Then, on Tuesday, we'll start preparing for the Partizan game with the players we have. There's nothing else."
Reflecting on the loss to MoraBanc, Penarroya attributed the outcome to the team's absences.
"It is an abnormal situation," the coach underlined. "It's been a series of coincidences. Just 48 hours before, we were in Athens, came here to play with seven players, and five minutes later, Markus went down. When things go wrong, they can always get worse."
On Friday, Baskonia meet Partizan at home in EuroLeague Round 6.
