Caitlin Clark makes successful WNBA debut but Indiana Fever fall to Connecticut Sun
The Connecticut Sun were notfazed by arguably the most anticipated WNBA debut of all time asthey beat the Indiana Fever with ease, 91-72, in the WNBA’s seasonopener on Tuesday night.
The Sun were about businessagainst highly-touted rookie Caitlin Clark to rout the Fever.Veteran Alyssa Thomas put up a triple-double of 13 points, 10rebounds, and 13 assists as she carved up the defense of the youngFever featuring back-to-back no.1 picks in Clark and AliyahBoston.
Clark, this year’s top overallselection in the draft and the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer inhistory, scored 20 points on 5-15 shooting from the field including4-11 from distance. However, she committed 10 turnovers in herfirst taste of pro basketball.
36-year-old vet DeWanna Bonnerled the Sun in scoring with 20 points while teammates DiJonaiCarrington and Tyasha Harris added 16 apiece in a balanced attackfor Connecticut.
Up next for Clark is a showdownbetween Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty in her home debutat Indiana on Thursday.
