NBA All-Star history in the Bay Area
NBA All-Star 2025 will mark the 25th anniversary of the last time that the event was held in the Bay Area.
In the 2000 NBA All-Star Game, the San Antonio Spurs' Tim Duncan (24 points and 14 rebounds) and the Los Angeles Lakers' Shaquille O'Neal (22 points and nine rebounds) shared Most Valuable Player honors and led the Western Conference past the Eastern Conference 137-126 at The Arena in Oakland.
The Philadelphia 76ers' Allen Iverson, making his All-Star Game debut, scored a game-high 26 points for the Eastern Conference.
NBA All-Star 2000 also featured an iconic performance by the Toronto Raptors' Vince Carter to win the AT&T Slam Dunk.
Carter, then in the second season of an NBA-record 22-season career, scored a perfect 50 on three of his five dunks and received scores of 49 and 48 on his other two attempts.
The first NBA All-Star Game in the Bay Area took place in 1967 at the Cow Palace. The host team's players shined as the San Francisco Warriors' Rick Barry earned the MVP award with 38 points, and Warriors teammate Nate Thurmond had 16 points and 18 rebounds to help the Western Conference defeat the Eastern Conference 135-120.
Thirteen members of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team played in the 1967 NBA All-Star Game: Barry, Thurmond, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Dave DeBusschere, Hal Greer, John Havlicek, Jerry Lucas, Willis Reed, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, Jerry West and Lenny Wilkens.
