The player ultimately never arrived in Venezia's training camp following a strong performance in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Partizan signed the Brazilian big man to a two-year deal after FIBA allowed the player and his agent to pursue a new team. Following the move, Caboclo's agency explained that the deal he signed with Venezia was preliminary and essentially allowed the move without complicated legal procedures.
Despite the fact, the Italian club is ready to take the case to the FIBA Appeals Panel, the organization announced.
Venezia's full statement:
Umana Reyer Venezia takes note of the unjust and flawed decision of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) to issue the clearance to the player Bruno Caboclo at the request of Partizan Belgrade.
The release of the aforementioned authorization, in the face of a very serious violation committed by the Athlete, in manifest bad faith and with the guilty collaboration of the manager and the new Club, is completely unacceptable and will be contested by Reyer in every forum and by every legal means available, starting with the appeal to the FIBA Appeals Panel.
Likewise, Reyer reserves the right to have the unlawful conduct of the player's managers and of Partizan Belgrade itself, which, despite being aware of the contractual obligation in place with Reyer, has proceeded with the transfer request. The innocent-looking faces of players and agents who don't respect not only the contracts but also the sports programming, investments, and competitiveness of the teams are not tolerable.
It is unacceptable that in a functional and interdependent system like that of European basketball, a club takes advantage of the performance of a player contractually linked to a potential opponent.
For this reason, Reyer is absolutely determined to continue its legal battle against all those involved in this matter and in all possible venues.
It is, unfortunately, clear that respect for the code of conduct sanctioned by FIBA itself and the basic sporting values that should be shared by all cannot be entrusted to the individual conscience of those who work in our sport in any capacity.
