Despite the loss, coach Gianmarco Pozzecco expressed pride in his players. However, he hinted at perceived officiating issues throughout the match that hindered ASVEL from overcoming their local archrivals.
"I am so proud of my players. They deserved to win. Of course, Monaco played really well; congratulations to Sasa Obradovic, a friend of mine, and all of the players. But not everybody on the court respects us," Pozzecco underlined in the post-game interview with EuroLeague TV.
"And that I do not like the most. We deserve this respect: we fight, we work hard, and we deserve to have the same opportunity as everyone to win games. I am really mad," he added.
When a reporter inquired if Pozzecco was referring to the referees, the Italian coach responded with a firm statement after a moment of contemplation:
"I want respect. I want respect. I want respect," he reiterated three times.
