Several days later, Gilgeous-Alexander started receiving strange visits to his house, as multiple threatening-looking people approached the house on several occasions, Ian Austen from The New York Times reports.
The home used to belong to Aiden Pleterski, a self-described "crypto king" who owes $19.5 million to more than 150 investment clients after declaring bankruptcy in 2022.
Pleterski was even kidnapped in December 2022 by one of his investors and four other men, Austen cites court documents. He used to have a security guard to scare possible attackers away but ultimately moved out of the house.
Gilgeous-Alexander argues through a holding company that this information was not disclosed during the purchase of the house and wants the transaction to be nullified. The main argument is that the original seller did not inform the buyers about a link between the house and Pleterski, undermining the well-being of the future homeowner.
Analysis by a bankruptcy trustee showed that Pleterski invested just CAD 1.6 million out of the 41.6 million he collected. Instead, he used the remaining money to pay out the non-existing investment gains to the customers and buy luxurious items, including the house under question.
