Talking with the media after the game, head coach Pablo Laso revealed that the plan for the last shot was executed as it was drawn, but Leandro Bolmaro's shot just didn't go in.
So far this season, Bayern's had only three wins in nine games, sharing 14th place in the EuroLeague standings with two other teams. Talking about the start of the year, Laso was happy with the team's effort but admitted they have to start winning games.
"We knew it was going to be a little bit of a process. When a new coach gets a team and new players in important positions like point guard, we have a lot of players, young talents, so we knew it was going to be a process," Laso said. "It's the same - we lost the last BBL game in overtime, now we lost on the last shot, in Braunschweig, we lost on the last shot, we were close in the score in Tel Aviv, we were dominating against Crvena Zvezda. We're losing a lot of close games. It says well about us, but we're not winning, so that's not good."
"It would be very simple for me to say we're playing well, we're performing better, but we want to win games in the end. We still have a lot [of the] way to go to be the team that we want to [be]. It's a process, and we're doing a lot of good things to be competitive. For me, it's normal," the coach continued. "New players. I was on the same team with the same players for many years, now it's different. I also have to adjust and get used to what they can do and what they cannot do. That's a process, and it's important that we go through it together."
One of the new faces on the squad is Serge Ibaka, who played his best game in this EuroLeague season so far, scoring 20 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and registering 2 blocks.
Talking about the former NBA champion, Laso said he's been adjusting well after not having played for multiple months.
"With Serge, we have to be patient. We have to be patient, but he's doing a good job trying to come back to his game rhythm," the coach said. "He's been without play for a long time, and I think he's in shape. He's showing that he's in shape, he has to get into game rhythm. Sometimes, he's missing in some games. He gets tired, he's not as athletic as he could be."
"He's ready for it, and I think he played very well. He's pissed because he missed some shots that are easy for him, but I think he played great for us, he did a great job like all of them," Laso explained. "In the end, we were playing in a difficult arena, we knew it was not going to be easy. Everybody performed as well as possible, they tried, we played hard, and we had the last shot. It talks great about the team, but we have to be thinking that we lost, and we have to get better to win these games."
