With 7:15 remaining in the third quarter, Lively jumped to catch a lob pass from Luka Doncic but did not control the ball and his landing. The rookie center grabbed onto the rim but didn't grasp it well enough and ended up falling on his back.
Lively remained lying on the ground throughout the next Lakers possession until the Mavericks took a timeout. The player was later helped off the court by his teammates, as he couldn't put weight on his left leg.
Lively did not finish the match, as he was ruled out with a back contusion.
"He wants to win, it's all about winning. That's who he is, and we're lucky to have him part of the Mavs family," head coach Jason Kidd said about Lively after the game.
According to NBA insider Mark Stein, Lively was able to walk under his own power following the game and said he was fine.
