According to BasketNews journalist Lukas Malinauskas, Zibenas will be officially announced as the new head coach on December 11 after the Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF) committee meeting.
Zibenas will work for Lithuania during the EuroBasket Qualifiers windows. Kazys Maksvytis will remain the head coach during the main EuroBasket tournament if Lithuania qualifies.
Currently, Zibenas is also a head coach of Rytas Vilnius. He'll become the second tactician to take over the national team for Qualifiers windows.
Zalgiris Kaunas head coach Kazys Maksvytis stepped down from his coaching duties for the Lithuania national team during the club season after signing with Zalgiris in 2022.
Kestutis Kemzura replaced Maksvytis to coach the national team during the Qualifiers but also resigned after agreeing a deal with BC Wolves Vilnius.
During the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, Lithuania's coaching staff consisted of Maksvytis, Zibenas, Tomas Rinkevicius, Benas Matkevicius, and Evaldas Berzininkaitis.
In the upcoming EuroBasket Qualifiers window, Lithuania will face Poland (February 23) and Estonia (February 26).
