As he was driving to the basket, Alocen tore the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee which started his ordeal.
He had to miss the rest of the 2021-22 season and the entire 2022-23 season, watching Real Madrid lift the EuroLeague crown in Kaunas last May. Everything indicated that he would make his return before 2024 and it seems that the moment has finally arrived.
His return could be as close as Real Madrid's ACB contest vs. MoraBanc Andorra on Sunday at noon (12:30 CET). Alocen, 22, was included in the 12-man squad, which means that he might get some playing time, depending on how the game evolves.
"I don't know yet, we hope so," coach Chus Mateo replied when asked about the issue.
Alocen, who joined Real Madrid from Casademont Zaragoza in 2019, has been chosen Best Young Player of the ACB League two years in a row (2019, 2020), being the second player to achieve that distinction on two occasions, along with Luka Doncic.
