The dynamic duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving played pivotal roles in turning the game around during the second half, overcoming a 9-point deficit against the league's best defensive team.
In the aftermath of this win, head coach Jason Kidd passionately defended his star players when questioned about their performance. The press conference took an interesting turn when Kidd, addressing ESPN's reporter Tim MacMahon, requested some positive media coverage of their success.
Kidd, who left the press conference early, emphasized the growth process.
"Maybe it's the things that you thought would happen day one, that they should be successful right off the bat. It takes time. Failing is alright," Kidd started. "It's not a bad thing to fail for an athlete because you better learn from it. Those two are the best in the world, and we feel very comfortable with them having the ball. Sometimes it goes in, sometimes it doesn't, but we learn from it. As you mentioned, they're one of the best duos in clutch time.
"It was something you guys wanted to make a big deal of last year, but not making a big deal about it this year because s**t is going good," he continued. "So, write some positive s**t. I'm giving you a f***ing answer. It's alright to write positive stuff. People will read your positive s**t. You don't always have to be negative. The world is already negative enough, right? Let's see some positive stuff on positive people who are doing their jobs on a nightly basis. We're only into this year, we can't go back to last year. That's the f***ing problem. Have a good night."
Despite pre-season doubts and predictions of missing the playoffs like in 2022-23, the star duo has proven their critics wrong.
Doncic had his third 40-point game this season on Monday, recording 41 points to go along with 9 rebounds, 9 assists, and no turnovers. He also made a skyhook for the game-deciding basket.
Irving, overcoming a shaky start, contributed 27 points to the victory.
Dallas is 11-6 and ranks in the Western Conference Top 5.
