Sumner is expected to arrive in Kaunas this week, but will not be able to travel with the team to the EuroLeague Round 11 game in Milan.
"Zalgiris was looking for a new addition for some time. We had a few options, but we didn't want to rush. We are happy that our efforts capitalized and that we were able to reach an agreement with a player who has a lot of experience at the highest level. We hope that Edmond's adaptation in Europe will not take too long," said Zalgiris sports director Paulius Jankunas.
Sumner, who has previously played for the Indiana Pacers and the Brooklyn Nets across the Atlantic, encountered a significant setback when he tore his Achilles in the summer of 2021, causing him to miss the entire 2021-22 season.
Despite this severe injury, he showed prowess last season, averaging 7.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game for the Nets.
Sumner, who played for Xavier Musketeers University, was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans as the 52nd pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, and immediately traded to Indiana.
The new Zalgiris player had his best year in a Pacers jersey in the 2020-21 season. In 55 games, he averaged almost 16 minutes on the floor, scoring 7.5 points and making 40% of his three-pointers.
Sumner parted ways with the Nets last summer and signed with the Charlotte Hornets, where he played four pre-season games but became a free agent a month later.
