Arat became one of the candidates in the upcoming election.
One of the campaign promises that Arat made was to expand the basketball branch, which is not surprising, considering that he used to serve as an advisor to the EuroLeague Chief Business Officers Board.
For this, he proposed a merger with Bahcesehir Koleji, which competes in the Turkish Basketball Super League as well as the FIBA Europe Cup and has one of the higher budgets in the Turkish league, according to Sports Digitale.
Accordingly, he nominated Huseyin Yucel, the president of Bahcesehir Koleji, as his vice-president candidate.
The plans include building a new court in Akatlar, where Besiktas's current court is located, with a capacity of 9000 people under Bahcesehir's sponsorship. The team will also be renamed "Besiktas Bahcesehir."
Arat is also insistent on bringing Besiktas back to the EuroLeague. The team last competed at the highest level of Europe in the 2012-13 season.
The realization of the candidate's vision remains dependent on the Besiktas presidential election, which will take place on December 3.
