"I'm a little upset about the whole situation," he said and explained that Partizan GM Zoran Savic expressed interest in the player. Ferrell's camp told Partizan that the athlete would be available and Savic, after consulting with Zeljko Obradovic, came back with a two-month offer that included an option for Ferrell to stay until the end of the season.
The main problem in this story was Partizan's financial offer.
"I was being honest," Tejeda continued.
"I told Partizan that I heard that the government can't afford to spend more money. Yogi liked the idea of coming to Belgrade, but felt the offer did not show that he was sufficiently appreciated. They know who he is, he played two years in the ABA League, he was very good."
Before spending half a season in China, the American guard had played for Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana in the previous two seasons. In his last season in the EuroCup with Cedevita, he averaged 18.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 2.3 rebounds in a season where his team finished last in Group A with a record of 3-15.
"The deal was never done, nor did we agree and say that Yogi was coming to Partizan. We were still in the process of terminating the contract in China. Shanghai demanded another 100,000 euros for the buyout. I explained to them that we did not have an agreement with Partizan, so things calmed down," Ferrell's agent argued.
According to Tejeda, Partizan still had seven days to match Buducnost's offer.
"If you really want a player, then you guarantee a whole year, and they didn't. Yogi then decided on his future. When I announced that, I was told that none of our players would ever play with Partizan again. Why?" the agent wondered.
