Such a decision is primarily based on the concept of a cup competition, where point differential makes a difference in the final standings.
Nevertheless, the long-standing NBA tradition of dribbling the ball out during the last possession is still present, with multiple players being against late-clock scoring. Contrary to the opponents of the new format, Phoenix Suns superstar Devin Booker said he wished every game had this spirit.
"I've seen teams upset about it, I don't know why. I've seen players upset about it, I don't know why. Honestly, I wish every game was like that, where you can play 'til the end and it wasn't viewed as disrespectful. Just high competition," Booker told Duane Rankin from The Arizona Republic after last night's game against the Toronto Raptors.
"If everybody's under the same impression that you're playing until the end, then it will never be a problem," Booker said.
