The T-Mobile Arena witnessed a sellout of 19,021 fans during the Saturday final between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Indiana Pacers, which the Lakers ultimately won in the NBA Cup.
Tournament MVP LeBron James, reflecting on the atmosphere and fan support in Las Vegas, reiterated his enduring eagerness to bring an NBA team to the city.
"My enthusiasm about being here post-career, bringing a team here, has not changed," he stressed in the post-game conference. "The fans are amazing here. Like I said, they already have WNBA team, baseball team coming in soon, NFL team, hockey team, F1 was just here over the Thanksgiving week. I mean, it's a place that loves great attractions, and I think the NBA will be another great addition to the city."
Lakers head coach Darvin Ham echoed these sentiments, affirming that Las Vegas possesses the intrinsic qualities required to host an NBA franchise.
"It has built-in electricity and energy. It's built for what we witnessed tonight. It's definitely an NBA city," Ham said at the presser.
Despite the positive feedback, discussions about NBA expansion or Las Vegas as a potential new market are on hold until the league secures a new media deal.
