A return timetable has not been established at this point.
The incident occurred during Dallas' 125-112 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.
With just under four minutes remaining in the second quarter, Irving was fouled under the basket by center Duop Reath. As he fell to the floor, teammate Dwight Powell unintentionally stepped on his foot, prompting Irving to remain down for an extended period.
Irving, who has been contending with a left foot injury that led to him missing four games (two of which were on the second night of back-to-backs), is second only to fellow All-Star Luka Doncic in scoring for the Mavericks. The 31-year-old is currently averaging 23 points per game.
Doncic, the team's leading scorer, is ranked second in the NBA with 31.9 points per game and has achieved at least 30 points in his last six games.
Looking ahead, the Mavericks are set to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night, followed by a back-to-back home game on Tuesday against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
