Walla Sports first reported that Maccabi had already informed all club employees, including administration and staff, of a 15 percent wage cut. Additionally, the club is exploring further cost reduction by cutting players' salaries.
Maccabi communicated to players their intention to activate the force majeure clause in the EuroLeague Framework Agreement (EFA). This clause comes into play when contractual duties become entirely or partially unfeasible due to reasons beyond the control of the club or players, such as a pandemic, government measures, or other official interventions.
The decision to relocate to Belgrade was prompted by the war between Israel and Hamas, with Maccabi and other Israeli basketball teams moving to Serbia for safety reasons.
The 1% gross salary reduction for each home game represents the maximum limit EuroLeague clubs can propose to their players under the EFA.
Per sources, Maccabi are in discussions with players to explore a cut of less than 1% of their salaries per one home game.
The total percentage of the total gross salaries that might be cut is not precise at this point.
Maccabi are scheduled to play 12 more EuroLeague home games until the end of the regular season.
