Instead, former Brooklyn Nets head coach and now assistant coach at the Golden State Warriors, Kenny Atkinson, will join the coaching staff as an assistant coach to Vincent Collet.
Atkinson played in France during his professional career. He also began his coaching career in the country, working as an assistant in a now-extinct Paris Basket Racing club. He went through the ranks in the NBA, ultimately becoming a head coach for the Nets in 2016, a position he served for four seasons.
As hosts, France is one of eight teams already qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. After missing the 2023 FIBA World Cup, San Antonio Spurs sensation Victor Wembanyama confirmed he would play for the national team in the Olympics alongside veterans Nando de Colo and Nicolas Batum.
France is viewed as one of the favorites in the Olympic Games, rivaled only by a few other teams that are also seen as title contenders.
