Credit: FIBA Credit FIBAA report came out on Wednesday claiming that Aleksandar 'Sasha' Djordjevic will leave the Chinese national team. The coach responded to the claims.
The report stated Djordjevic would instead join the Italian national team as the head coach to replace Gianmarco Pozzecco, who's been at the helm since 2022. The Serbian coach categorically denied the information.
"Before publishing news, you must make sure that it is true and well-founded. Otherwise, there is a risk of doing damage, even unintentionally, to all the parties involved," he posted on X, formerly Twitter, in Italian. "I proudly continue with my role as coach of the Chinese national team."
Djordjevic was appointed as head coach of the Chinese national team in 2022. Coached by Djordjevic, China participated in the 2023 FIBA World Cup but didn't make the cut for the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, finishing the competition in 28th place.
The 56-year-old specialist has previously coached the Serbian national team and multiple clubs in the EuroLeague.
