Sarunas Jasikevicius has been announced as the new head coach of the Turkish team. The Lithuanian specialist signed a deal that runs through the end of the 2025-26 season.

Jasikevicius was previously the head coach of FC Barcelona for three years, from 2020 to 2023. Together with the Catalan club, Saras reached the EuroLeague Final Four three times in a row but ended up losing in the final once and in the semifinal twice.

Before arriving in Barca, Jasikevicius led Zalgiris Kaunas. With him under the helm, the Lithuanian club had the best season in over 20 years during the 2017-18 season when the underdog squad reached the Final Four.

With six wins and seven losses, Fenerbahce currently share 11th place in the EuroLeague standings. Their next game comes against AS Monaco on Friday, December 15th. It's currently unclear whether Jasikevicius will already coach the team during the game.

According to Basketfaul, Jasikevicius arrived in Istanbul at 4 PM local time, and the team's training was delayed past 8 PM for him to be able to attend it.

The same source also states that Saras's official documents will be issued in time before the game against Monaco but that the club has left it to the Lithuanian coach if he wants to be at the team's helm on Friday.

Next week, Saras's Fenerbahce will play against his former team, Zalgiris, in Istanbul on Wednesday, December 20th, in the first game of a double-round week.
