He didn't have any kind of problem, but his tone sounded almost conspiratorial -- as if he did not want anyone to eavesdrop or intervene while he was talking. The American forward/center remains a low-key person who often chooses to turn up the volume whenever he steps onto the court.

Coming from a family with very strict principles, Davies has been immersed in the notion of discipline from the get-go. He attended Brigham Young University in Utah between 2009 and 2013, where he played a leading role, averaging 12.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game in a total of 135 games.

After completing his university education and despite going undrafted, he had a two-year, 78-game NBA stint with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets, where he finished the 2014-15 season.

From that point on, Davies' road to Europe's top level wasn't all roses. He had to spend two seasons in France (Elan Chalon), Italy (Openjobmetis Varese), and Monaco in order to get a shot at the EuroLeague. A solid 2016-17 campaign in the Principality served his aspirations well by granting him a 1+1 deal with Zalgiris Kaunas.

Climbing up the ladder of improvement and progress, Davies soon became one of the most dominant big men in Europe, showcasing his resilience and versatility.

"I've always had a goal -- to get better every year," Davies reflects during his discussion with BasketNews.

"I've had that instilled in me since high school. That's something I continue to do and has been a big part of why I've been able to progress in my career, be on big teams, and make waves."

Going through different stages in his career, Davies has been able to play three seasons withFC Barcelonaand another one withEA7 Emporio Armani Milanbefore joiningValencia Basketlast summer.

If progress is the opposite of stagnation, then Davies has reason to believe that his experience with Valencia will be different from his time in Milan, where - as he says - he didn't feel like being a part of the team coach Ettore Messina put together.

In this interview, he also hints atthe main reason he left Barcelona in 2022, expresses his wish to work with Zeljko Obradovic, weighs in on what Sarunas Jasikevicius can achieve with Fenerbahce, and names the most important thing missing from his resume.
