MIN:25.14PTS:9.67 (56.72%)REB:5.53As:5.8ST:0.4BL:0.73TO:2.4GM:15ProfileNBA2023/2024The Golden State Warriors forward built up a strong record of violent and unsportsmanlike behavior in his career and he was increasingly called out after his actions against Rudy Gobert and Jusuf Nurkic, which led to his indefinite suspension by the NBA.
Speaking to The Athletic, the official explained the rationale behind the nature of Green's suspension.
"We didn’t want to get focused on just a number," Dumars said, talking about the fact that Green was not suspended for a definite amount of time. "You put 5, 10, 15, 20 — whatever you put — that becomes the focus.
Everybody focuses on that many games, as opposed to 'Draymond, take some time off, get yourself right, whatever you need to do. Get your help, and get yourself right,' Dumars continued to explain. "And [we] didn't want him to feel, 'Well, I have to hurry up and do this now because I have 5, 10, 15, 20 games,'" the official said.
"And so there is no minimum threshold," Dumars had fully explained the rationale behind Green's indefinite suspension.
Later on, the official expressed his best wishes.
"The only thing we really want to see him do is get better so when he comes back, we're not dealing with the same issues over and over again," Dumars hoped. "And so that was the whole purpose behind indefinite, and when he is ready, then he'll come back...
When the team feels like he's ready, he'll come back," Dumars concluded.
