San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama was absent from Saturday's game against the Dallas Mavericks, where he missed out due to an unfortunate incident during pregame warmups.

The Frenchman rolled his ankle when he stumbled and accidentally stepped on a ball boy's foot while participating in a layup drill.

Following his team's comfortable 144-119 win over the Spurs, Mavs leader Luka Doncic expressed surprise about Wembanyama's pregame mishap, stating that he wasn't aware of such an injury.

Doncic also emphasized the disappointment of not being able to compete against a talented player like Wembanyama.

"I didn't even know he got injured in the warmups. Did he get injured in the warmups? Yeah, I mean, that's bad luck," Doncic said. "You always want to play against guys like this, so it's a disappointment."

In Wembanyama's absence, Doncic led the Mavericks to victory with an impressive 39-point, 12-rebound, and 10-assist triple-double.

The defeat marked the 22nd loss in 23 games for the Spurs, who are currently in a rebuilding phase centered around Wembanyama, the first overall pick in June's NBA Draft.

Looking ahead, the Spurs are set to face the Utah Jazz on Tuesday.
