Freddie Gillespie has been Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade's last addition. The 26-year-old big man averaged 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in the EuroLeague in 9.2 minutes on the floor with his previous team, FC Bayern Munich.

A far cry compared to his rookie season in Europe (2022-23), where the former Baylor University graduate produced 4.3 points and 6.0 boards per contest.

For one, his former teammate, Vladimir Lucic, thinks that Gillespie can make a real impact on Zvezda.

"Freddie is a hard worker, 100% dedicated in every training session and every game. He's always there to do the dirty work," the Serbian forward told Sport Klub.

"I think that Zvezda team suits him much more in terms of characteristics than Bayern – he is surrounded by one of the best guards in the history of the EuroLeague, Milos Teodosic, but also with a lot of other talented players in positions from two to four, players who can make him better," Lucic continued.

The 34-year-old describes Gillespie as a player who depends a lot on the system and on the teammates he is surrounded by.

"Others need to assist him in order for him to make a basket. I don't know exactly how big he is, but he has an abnormal wingspan. He is not so strong in lateral movements to stop opponents on mismatches, but he is big and does not give up.

He does things that are not always reflected in statistics. If he fits right in, he could be a boost for Zvezda," Lucic maintains.

For EuroLeague Round 17, Red Star will be hosted by Panathinaikos with the view to improving their 6-10 record.
