The contract has been structured to decrease in annual salary, offering a favorable cash value for McBride.
McBride was the 36th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft,
In three seasons, McBride has averaged 2.8 points per game, and 1.0 assists per game, while averaging 10 minutes played across 122 career games.
The Knicks’ recent trading activity saw Immanuel Quickley moving to the Toronto Raptors. It is expected that McBride will step into a more prominent role as the primary backup point guard behind Jalen Brunson. However, McBride will also have to contend with newly acquired point guard Malachi Flynn, who arrived from Toronto in the same trade.
The team also traded away RJ Barrett to the Raptors. In return, apart from Flynn, they received OG Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa. This marks the most significant trade under the leadership of Knicks president Leon Rose.
