Despite blowing multiple leads in multiple overtimes, Efes had a 9-point lead, but Real mounted a comeback in the second overtime, while Mario Hezonja hit a buzzer-beating floater to force third overtime.
Shane Larkin, who finished the game with 32 points in a whopping 53 minutes of playing time, started the third overtime with a triple, giving Efes a three-point lead. Real battled back once again and had a two-point lead with under two minutes remaining.
Efes managed to gain a two-point lead of their own with just 14 seconds remaining, but Tavares' dunk forced yet another overtime.
Teams exchanged baskets one after another en route to setting a new Euroleague scoring record of 256 points and shattering the old one, which was previously set way back in 2004 (232 points, Panathinaikos vs. Fortitudo).
Dzanan Musa, who set his EuroLeague scoring and PIR record during the game, scored a fast-break basket but was awarded an unsportsmanlike foul during the process, sending Tibor Pleiss. However, he made just one free throw, Mike Daum missed a triple, and Real Madrid finally captured the win.
Musa scored 40 points and recorded 46 PIR, while three other players registered double-doubles in Real Madrid - Mario Hezonja (31 points, 12 rebounds, 26 PIR), Facundo Campazzo (25 points, 11 assists, 30 PIR), and Edy Tavares (20 points, 12 rebounds, 35 PIR).
Two players - Shane Larkin (53:11) and Tibor Pleis (52:56) - played over 50 minutes in the game, both being their all-time highs. Hezonja, who scored his all-time EuroLeague high 31 points, Tavares, and Darius Thompson were close to reaching the 50-minute mark, each of them registering 49 minutes of playing time.
Additionally, Real Madrid set a new single-game scoring record for a team with 130 points, overcoming the previous record of 123 points set by multiple teams throughout tournament history.
Real were on the verge of suffering their first home defeat this season, but ultimately it was Efes who lost their 12th game this season in 19 contests. Real remain 1st in the standings with 17 wins, while Efes stand in 15th place with 7 victories.
