Parker criticized the Italian coach, stating that Pozzecco had seemingly given up and was solely focused on his financial gain, refusing to implement the agreed-upon strategy with the club.
"I am very, very, disappointed with his performance, with his management of the team. ... In these circumstances, it's a shame to wait to get fired instead of resigning. He did it on purpose," Parker said in some of his statements about Pozzecco.
In response to these events, Andrea Trinchieri, the new head coach of Zalgiris Kaunas and a fellow Italian specialist, shared his thoughts in a press conference before a double-round week start against Valencia Basket.
"Coaches are the ones that usually pay the price of bad result," he began. "This is very common, and it is what it is. This won't change. Sometimes, it is easier to change a coach than to fix things with a team, players, and stuff like that.
"I believe that a club can take the decision to change the coach," Trinchieri added. "It is something that they have this right. At the same time, I believe that being a gentleman and without saying stuff in the media can always help.
"I don't know the situation. I was not there. But I know that sometimes the way of Gianmarco Pozzecco to coach can be divisive, because he is very emotional and gives everything, and whatever I say won't be the right thing. So, he is this kind of coach," Trinchieri continued about his countryman.
"I believe that he can give you some big things -- the emotional side, also playing every 48 hours, sometimes, the emotional side is not the only thing that you have to take care of. But it's never good for the category of the coaches to expose someone in the media. It is something that I would not do, but I'm not the owner of a team," the 55-year-old concluded.
Interestingly, Pozzecco's last game was against Trinchieri's Zalgiris, with ASVEL defeating the Lithuanian champions in the EuroLeague Round 19 game at home, ending their 10-game losing streak.
