IQVIA Injury Surveillance & Analytics was the company that produced the report. Dr. Christina Mack, who worked on it, stated that there was no ultimate conclusion that showed that load management was definitively a non-factor in preventing injuries.
The report was dispatched to all NBA teams, and data received from the clubs seemed to corroborate the claims and the findings of the report.
In terms of the essentials, the report included factors such as minutes played, age, and injury history. It also encompassed a broad period, starting its sample space from the 2013-14 season and ending it with 2022-23.
Moreover, the report focused on "starter-level players," which ESPN defines as "...those players were All-Stars from the past three seasons, top 10 picks in that season's draft and the remaining players with the most total minutes played in the prior season who don't fit into either of the previous two groups."
However, the company also acknowledged certain shortcomings of the report. Its sample space did not extend beyond a 10-year scope, and it did not have separate analyses for teams in their specific practices regarding load management.
Irrespective of this reality, the report generally seems to support what NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Joe Dumars had outlined a few months ago. ESPN also notes Adam Silver, the NBA Commissioner, backed Dumars on his comments last month.
The league's attempt to crack down on load management continues after it introduced new rules to try and curb it last Autumn.
