The Spurs are 7-32 on the season, sitting in last place in the Western Conference, but their rookie superstar has put up 19.4 points and 10.2 rebounds so far for the team. He has also proven to be a top-notch defender, as he leads the league in blocks at 3.2 per game while also getting about a steal per game.
But even though Wembanyama is proving that he's a generational talent, he knows that he's still got room for improvement. That's why the Spurs rookie star believes he should get the same treatment that any other player would get if they play poorly and be sent to the G League.
"I like to be coached. I like to be threatened to be sent to the G League if I don’t play the right way. I like it when there are consequences of my mistakes," he openly told ESPN's Marc J. Spears.
Spurs head coach, Gregg Popovich, said Wemby "has learned how to roll to the bucket, run the floor. That sets the tone for everybody. Defensively, he's becoming a really good rim protector."
"Obviously, he’s tall and long, and he should be," Popovich added, "but he’s figuring out how to make that a definite priority. Everybody else has learned how to handle that by playing around him.”
