The Portland Trail Blazers center couldn't leave his neighborhood and arrive at the arena after a sheet of ice blocked the driveway.
The player tried to combat it for hours, Blazers beat writer Casey Holdahl reports. Even the team's personnel was called to help, but ultimately, the player wasn't able to overcome the issue.
Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups said pre-game that he hadn't seen such conditions in quite a while, even though he has lived in colder climates before. Ayton, however, was born in the Bahamas, attended college in Arizona, and later played for the Phoenix Suns, and hadn't had any encounters with living in such an environment before getting traded to the Blazers.
Despite not having Ayton on the active roster, the Blazers ended up beating the Nets.
